Stefanos Tsitsipas v Casper Ruud Head to Head

This will be the third meeting between both players with the head-to-head tied at 1-1.  Both meetings were this year with Ruud prevailing on the Madrid clay and Tsitsipas on the hard courts of the Canadian Open.

Tsitsipas Disappoints In Rublev Opener

2019 ATP Tour Finals champion Stefanos Tsitsipas  reached a career high world number three in the ATP rankings and tasted consistent success earlier in the season.

However, ever since he let go of a two sets to love lead against world number one Novak Djokovic in the French Open final, he has not been quite the same player.

The season since then has seen disappointing early losses, indifferent form, off court controversies (US Open) and more recently elbow issues resulting in him withdrawing from the Paris Masters  last week.

It was not the best of starts for Tsitsipas to his Tour Finals campaign as he was broken early by Rublev in the first set, in what was somewhat of a revenge match for the double fault match point heartbreak that Rublev had when these two met last year in the London Tour Finals.

A mix of being low on confidence given results, niggling injuries and a strong Rublev game saw the Greek playing from behind throughout the match and when he was broken again in the second set, the writing was on the wall as far as this match was concerned.

Down one loss in the tournament, the number four ranked player will be looking for a win at any cost in his second encounter to remain alive in the tournament given a third group match against world number one Novak Djokovic

Ruud In Search Of First Tour Finals Win

It has been a breakthrough year for Casper Ruud, winning five ATP Tour level titles of which four were on his favored surface (clay) and also one on the hard courts of San Diego.

A strong and consistent run ensured he became the first Norwegian to break into the top ten of the ATP rankings as well as book a spot in the Tour Finals in Turin.

Beginning his campaign against world number one Novak Djokovic, Ruud put up a good challenge early on, breaking the Serb and even after being broken back, he managed to hold on to take the set to a tie-break.

Once Djokovic won the tiebreak, it was one way traffic for the Serb clinching the match 7-6(7-4), 6-2.

Ruud will be hoping for a first ever Tour Finals win and maybe even a potential semi-final berth on the cards in the days to come.

Tsitsipas v Ruud Prediction and Tip

Based on the surface and the fact that he won the title here in 2019, Tsitsipas would start as the favorite. However, on current form and fitness (given the Greek’s elbow issues), Ruud will have the upper hand and can be expected to win a tight contest in a decider.
