Sorana Cirstea v Amanda Anisimova Head to Head

Amanda Anisimova leads the head-to-head 1-0, winning the pair’s only meeting before this at the 2019 Wimbledon Championships.

Cirstea Blitzes Gracheva

Sorana Cirstea produced the most emphatic performance of this embryonic 2022 season, needing just 49 minutes to see off Varvara Gracheva 6-0 6-0.

That bizarre scoreline against a shellshocked opponent is enough evidence that the Romanian might soon be heading for a Top 20 spot if she can remain consistent enough throughout the season.

Cirstea dropped just 19 points in the whole match and broke Gracheva at will – three times in each set. In contrast, Cirstea was barely threatened on serve and had an easier time closing out a victory under very minimal pressure.

For all the fawning about Gracheva’s previous scalps, there was very little to demonstrate on her willingness to stay grounded. This result was a total shellacking and will take time to shake it off. But given that it is still early doors, and tournaments are coming thick and fast she can ease the pain in the next few weeks.

Anisimova Downs Van Uytvanck In A Thriller

While Cirstea made short work of Gracheva, Amanda Anisimova endured a tough afternoon against one of the WTA’s in-form players during the second half of the campaign.

Having won five matches on the spin to close out her 2021 campaign, Van Uytvanck was optimistic about her chances of extending that sequence against the unpredictable American.

However, the power-hitting Anisimova made a lightning start by garnering a break of serve in the sixth game. Van Uytvanck’s flat groundstrokes kept the 20-year-old slightly unbalanced from the back of the court and recovered to level the match. Eventually, the set went into a tiebreak where Anisimova got her bearings right this time and won it.

The second set was one-way traffic. The ginger-haired Belgian broke Anisimova in two successive games to force a decider. And the third set was littered with too many errors by both players. Ultimately, Anisimova did not contrive to throw the opportunity away as she broke decisively for the match in game 12.

Cirstea v Anisimova Prediction and Tip

We expect a close match and likely three sets. Cirstea was invincible in her opening match, serving the first main-draw double bagel of the new year. But it is unlikely she will have another routine afternoon in store.
