Iga Swiatek v Victoria Azarenka Head to Head

The two players have met just once on the WTA Tour and Azarenka was the winner there. The match took place in the 2020 US Open third round, where the Belarusian prevailed 6-4, 6-2.

Azarenka on a Roll

Victoria Azarenka has been absolutely clinical in Adelaide so far. Starting with a 6-3, 6-2 win over her doubles sparring partner Paula Badosa, the 32-year-old then moved on to beat the local Priscilla Hon in straight sets.

Hon put much more of a fight than Badosa, which was expected seeing that she defeated Petra Kvitova in the opener in three sets. However, the two-time Australian Open champion got the better of Hon, ultimately cruising to the quarters with 6-3, 7-5. She also won 76% of her points on the first serve.

Azarenka will now look to replicate the same performance against Swiatek, who herself is on a brilliant run in Adelaide.

That said, the current world number 27 has a rich pedigree, spanning five major final appearances, Olympic medals, and 35+ WTA finals. Azarenka is also playing here in the doubles half with Badosa and looks all but set for a semifinal run there.

Swiatek, Clinical as Usual

20-year-old Iga Swiatek made easy work of the current US Open runner-up Leylah-Annie Fernandez in the second round. The Pole took the match 6-1, 6-2, in an hour and 14 minutes – maintaining an impressive 84.4% first service win rate.

In the first round, she knocked out the Australian qualifier Daria Saville in straight sets. Her track record in Adelaide now stands at 7-0, following a successful campaign in the previous edition.

That superb run set the foundation for the rest of her season – Swiatek won the Italian Open, reached the quarters in French Open, and also settled there for the runner-up trophy. The World No. 9 also made it to the year-end WTA Finals but couldn’t make it past the group stage.

Swiatek v Azarenka Prediction and Tip

Azarenka has played a lot more professional tennis than Swiatek, which gives her a certain edge heading in this fixture. But the number five seed is fierce and playing some menacing tennis – this combined with her energy levels and massive serve can possibly make the Belarusian sweat. We are in for an entertaining affair.
