Daria Kasatkina v Amanda Anisimova Head to Head

Kasatkina Hopes to Set Record Straight Against Anisimova

After losing in the opening round of the Kremlin Cup, her season-ending event last year, Kasatkina launched her new season fortuitously with a walkover win over compatriot Anna Kalinskaya at the ongoing Melbourne Summer Set.

The 23-ranked Kasatkina had pocketed the opening set 6-1 and was leading 3-0 in the second when her opponent withdrew with an injury. It’s safe to say that the Russian would have won convincingly had the match run its course.

Up against Madison Keys of the US in her next, Kasatkina overcame stiff resistance in the opening set to win it via tiebreak. Though she lost ground in the second set to lose 2-6, she turned the tie back in her favor in the decider to eventually prevail in three sets.

Playing Nuria-Parrizas Dias for a place in the semifinals, Kasatkina produced spectacular tennis to down her opponent in straight sets. Once the opening set went to the Russian, there was simply no way back into the contest for the Spaniard as Kasatkina rode roughshod over her to ease to a clinical 7-5, 6-1 win.

However, she is expected to have a much tougher outing in the last four against in-form American Amanda Anisimova. The American is high on belief and confidence after recording three wins on the trot and will be keen to earn her place in the championship clash.

What may further work against the Russian going into Saturday’s tie is the fact that she lost her only previous head-to-head outing against Anisimova.

In-Form Anisimova Eyes the Final

Launching her new season with a bang, Anisimova opened her campaign at the ongoing Melbourne Summer Set with a hard fought win over Aliso Van Uytvanck of Belgium.

After taking the opening set through a tiebreak, the American slumped to loss in the second. However she lifted her game in the decider to eventually prevail in three sets.

Up against Sorana Cirstea in her next, the American was sleek and skillful in her thumping straight-set win over the veteran Romanian star.

Locked in a fierce battle for a place in the last four, Anisimova lost the opening set to Irina-Camelia Begu of Romania but recovered splendidly to win the next two and and secure passage to the semifinals.

While three straight wins will have come as a massive confidence booster for the American going into her last-four clash with Kasatkina, her win in their only previous head-to-head fixture will also put her in good stead ahead of Saturday’s encounter.

Kasatkina v Anisimova Prediction and Tip

With Kasatkina placed significantly higher in singles rankings and Anisimova leading 1-0 on the head-to-head count against the Russian, there  will be no favorite going into Saturday’s tie.
