Collins Dominates in Opener

Collins, who reached the semi-finals in Melbourne three years ago, has opened her latest campaign with a very convincing display against the qualifier and fellow American Caroline Dolehide, currently the world number 200, much better known as a doubles specialist.

The signs of what were to come were evident as early as the fourth game of the match, when Dolehide had to save four break points, but could not prevent Collins converting the fifth.

And two games later she was broken again, as the first set was wrapped up in just 26 minutes.

Dolehide did at least show some fight in the second set, and Collins had to save three break points but having done so, she then broke Dolehide twice more in succession.

Herr march to victory was briefly delayed when she dropped her own serve for the only time in the e match, but it was only a fleeting moment of hope for her opponent. Dolehide was broken once more as Collins cruised into the second round.

The Croatian saved a break point in the opening game of the match, but it was Rogers who was the first to drop her serve. However, she hit back to level straight away, and then broke Konjuh again, controlling the rest of the set from there.

The pair swapped breaks early in the second set, but then the Croatian forced another break and, although Rogers saved one set point, Konjuh made another one count.

When the American was broken again midway through the third set, it seemed all over.

But the match ha another twist to take when serving for the match, Konjuh had three match points, only for Rogers to save them all, not only doing that, but breaking back to level.

Unfortunately for the American, she was broken again in the very next game, and this time, Konjuh was not in the mood to give her any more chances and took her fourth match point.
