Juan Manuel Cerundolo v Hugo Dellien Head to Head
This will be their first meeting at the tour level, but they met twice at the Challenger level last year, with Cerundolo winning both the contests in three sets.

Can Cerundolo Repeat Last Year’s Exploits?
Last year it was at the Cordoba Open, where a 19-year-old Juan Manuel Cerundolo made a name for himself. The Argentine came through the qualifiers to make his ATP main draw debut and then went all the way to winning the title by defeating Spain’s Albert Ramos-Vinolas in the final.
He was ranked No. 335th in that event but made a significant move up the rankings following his stunning success which also included wins over Miomir Kecmanovic, Thiago Monteiro and Federico Coria. Cerundolo ended 2021 as a top 100 player in the world, and returns to Cordoba as the World No. 80.
A clay court specialist, Cerundolo’s other significant performances last year included six Challenger finals, of which he won three of them in Rome, Como and in Banja Luka.
On the tour, he finished with a 6-6 record in 2021, winning just one more match following the title success in Cordoba.
This year, he is 1-3 from three hard court tournaments down under. The lefty defeated Alex Bolt in Adelaide-1, but fell to Gael Monfils in the next round. He was eliminated in the first qualifying round in Adelaide-2, and fell to Thomas Macháč in the first round of the Australian Open on his Grand Slam debut.

Dellien Coming off Back-to-Back Challenger Semis
While his opponent will be making his first appearance on clay this year, World No. 114 has already played a couple of tournaments on the surface. He was semifinalist at a Challenger in Chile at the start of the season and also reached the final four at the Challenger in Bolivia this week. Interestingly it was Francisco Cerúndolo, Juan Manuel Cerundolo’s brother, who ended Dellien’s run in the tournament.
The 28-year-old Bolivian was 2-6 on the tour last year. A 16-time winner on the Futures circuit and a seven-time winner on the Challenger tour, Dellien reached three Challenger finals last year, winning the titles in Lima and Montevideo and finishing runner-up in Florianópolis, Brazil.
Dellien has a career-high ranking of 72, achieved in January 2020 and he has an overall record of 23-23 on clay courts on the tour.
This will be Dellien’s fourth main draw appearance in Cordoba. He is yet to go beyond the first round.
