Albert Ramos-Vinolas v Juan Pablo Varillas Head to Head

Qualifier Varillas in Unfamiliar Territory
Varillas has navigated his way from qualifying to the second round, with the 26-year-old not dropping a set on his way to the main draw, getting the better of Giannessi and Barrios in straight sets. Varillas then backed up his qualifying wins with a 3-set victory over Bagnis to set up the tie with Ramos-Vinolas.
Throughout his first round, Varillas hit 5 aces and won 71% of points behind the first serve as well as 58% of points behind the second serve compared to just 49% of second serve points won for Bagnis.
This was a key stat difference, as the majority of other stats were vastly similar. Eventually narrowly escaping past Bagnis 6-4 5-7 7-6(5) in a 3-hour 19-minute tussle.
This is the first main draw appearance of the year for the player from Peru, after losing in Q2 at Australian Open qualifying to Elias of Portugal. In Q1, Varillas defeated Uchiyama in straight sets. Varillas also lost in Q2 in Adelaide, defeating Janvier in Q1, but then losing 6-2 6-3 to Rune in Q2.
