Emil Ruusuvuori v Kamil Majchrzak Head to Head

The two players have met just once on the tour. The meeting took place in the US Open 2021 where Ruusuvuori won that first-round affair with 6-4, 6-2, 3-6, 6-1.

Yet Another Semifinal for Ruusuvuori

Emil Ruusuvuori will be pleased with the week he has had in Pune – the only stop on the ATP Tour in South-East Asia. He hasn’t lost a set yet, having so far beaten the likes of Egor Gerasimov, Vit Kopriva, and Jiri Vesely.

Vesely didn’t prove to be that big of a challenge as he defeated the Czech 6-3, 6-4.

The number six seed, who hails from Finland, will now compete in his second semifinal of the 2022 season. His last such stint came in Melbourne 1 where he ultimately lost to Rafael Nadal. Majchrzak, of course, is not as formidable of a player as the Spaniard and Ruusuvuori will eye his chances of making it to his maiden ATP final.

He also played in the Australian Open where he gave the Canadian No. 1 Felix Auger-Aliassime a run for his money by taking the match to five sets. The Finn ultimately lost that match.

The 22-year-old is the current World No. 87 and over the course of the last year, he has made some decent strides on the tour. His highlights include reaching the fourth-round in the Miami Masters (where he beat Alexander Zverev), and semifinals in Atlanta and Winston-Salem.

Majchrzak Enjoying the Form

Kamil Majchrzak’s ongoing stint in the Maharashtra Open now puts him at 7-1 for this season.

His most recent opponent is the number two seed Lorenzo Musetti, whom he defeated 6-2, 6-7(5), 6-4 in a little over two hours. It was a well-contested match where the Pole managed to outsmart his opponent only by the slimmest of the margins.

The 26-year-old is also coming off a good start to the year – he won all of his matches in the ATP Cup and made it as far as the second round in the Melbourne Slam.

As for his form last season, Majchrzak featured mainly in the Challenger events where he reached a couple of finals but couldn’t go the distance. On the ATP Tour, the #95th ranked player didn’t fare as well as his Finnish opponent but he did play some promising tennis.

Ruusuvuori v Majchrzak Prediction and Tip

Both players are coming off a great run, making this a match that can swing either way. Majchrzak has shown resilience while Ruusuvuori has a superior pedigree on the ATP circuit. We may be looking at a three-setter here where Ruusuvuori will start as the odds-on favourite.
