Top Seed Tsitsipas Ends Lehecka Dream Run

A semi-finalist at the Australian Open, Tsitsipas is coming off a layoff from elbow surgery and has surprised all with the form he has been in since his return to the Tour at the start of the season.

A strong early win against rising Belarusian Ilya Ivashka set the tone for the week.  Up against Aussie Alex de Minaur in the quarters, it was a strong display by Tsitsipas and although it was a straight sets 6-4, 6-4 win for the Greek, the match was closer than the scoreline suggested.

The top seed’s semi-final run mirrored the exact same form he displayed on these shores last season when he reached the final four before losing out to eventual champion Andrey Rublev.

This time around he was up against Czech ATP wonder Jiri Lehecka who was coming off his first ever ATP wins against Denis Shapovalov, Botic van De Zandschulp and then Lorenzo Musetti.

There was no letting go in the momentum for the Czech as he broke the Greek early and captured the opening set 6-4. However, Tsitsipas held himself well and played percentage tennis to break once and take the set 6-4.

The top seed’s experience was on display in the third as he did not let go of the advantage from the second set and with two breaks of serve, won the set 6-2 and secured a place in the final as he looks to win his first ever ATP 500 title on his eight title round attempt.

Auger-Aliassime In Search Of Maiden ATP Title

It has been an impressive run for Auger- Aliassime that began with a victory over Roger Federer on the grass courts of Halle and  remained impressive with quarter-finals at Wimbledon, semi-finals at US Open and in turn noteworthy wins against top ranked opponents.

2022 started on the same positive note leading Canada to a title win at the ATP Cup.

It was a good Aussie Open for Auger-Aliassime but he will rueing the missed opportunity in the quarter-finals where he was up two sets to love against world number two Daniil Medvedev only to let it slip away.

The Canadian looked in fine nick this week with well constructed wins against veteran Andy Murray and rising British star Cameron Norrie.

Facing title holder Andrey Rublev in the semis, it was always going to be an enthralling contest and so it was just like their previous two meetings.

The Canadian had his chances in the opening set with seven break points and three set points on the Russian’ serve, but was unable to convert any.

A tight tiebreak followed, but when Rublev had the first set point on the Auger-Aliassime serve at 5-6, he put pressure on the Canadian when needed and was able to convert and win the set.

The second set began with momentum on Rublev’s side who was looking to break early but the Canadian held on and saved break points and then broke at an opportune time to take the second set 6-4.

It was all Auger-Aliassime in the decider with his game in unstoppable flow passing Rublev at will and with two breaks of serve winning the set 6-2 for a place in the final and another shot at what he keeps missing- a maiden ATP title.

Tsitsipas v Auger-Aliassime Prediction and Tip

Tsitsipas has a 0-7 record in ATP 500 finals and Auger-Aliassime has a 0-8 record in ATP finals. One run will end here at the Rotterdam final and both will be eager and hungry to move ahead from it.

Expect a tight contest between both players with the better player at the key moments to prevail. On paper, Tstisipas may start as the favorite, but we will pick Auger- Aliassime to win his maiden ATP title in a tight three-setter.
