Aryna Sabalenka v Iga Swiatek Head to Head

Sabalenka defeated Swiatek in their only meeting at the WTA Finals last year.

Sabalenka Cruises Into the Last Eight

After double faulting 114 times in her first nine matches this season, Aryna Sabalenka had none against Switzerland’s Jil Teichmann in the third round of the Qatar Open on Wednesday, as she stormed into her first quarterfinal of the year with a straight sets win.

In what was her best performance of the season so far, the World No. 2 broke Teichmann thrice in both the sets and saved one of two break points that she faced to win the match 6-2, 6-1 in 63 minutes.

The top seed had begun her campaign with an equally impressive 6-2, 6-2 victory over Alize Cornet on Tuesday.

With the win, Sabalenka is now 6-4 for the season. A 10-time tour-level champion, the 23-year-old is chasing her second title in Doha, having won here two years ago following a straight sets win over Petra Kvitova in the final. The Belarusian seems to have regained her touch over the last two matches and will be hard to stop from here on.

Swiatek Overpowers Kasatkina

Just like Sabalenka, Iga Swiatek, too, pulled off a dominant performance in the third round. The World No. 8 defeated World No. 28 Daria Kasatkina on Wednesday to book a place in the quarterfinals.

After both players exchanged a break early in the first set, Swiatek began calling the shots and there was no stopping her as she raced to a 6-3, 6-0 win in 64 minutes.

The win over the Russian was an easier one for the Pole, who had needed two hours and two minutes to defeat Switzerland’s Viktorija Golubic 6-2, 3-6, 6-2 in the Round of 32.

This is the third time in four tournaments that Swiatek has reached the quarterfinals this year. She was a semifinalist at the Adelaide International and the Australian Open but fell to Jelena Ostapenko in the Round of 16 in Dubai last week.

This is the first time, she has come this far in Doha. Can she extend her 2022 quarterfinal record to 3-0?

Sabalenka v Swiatek Prediction and Tip
