Sloane Stephens v Anna Kalinskaya Head to Head

Their only previous outing came at the 2019 US Open where Kalinskaya first announced herself with a straight-set shock win over Stephens.

Stephens Finally Gets 2022 Underway

The only tournament Stephens had played this year before the start of this tournament was Australian Open and she had been sent packing in the first round by Emma Raducanu.

Stephens has turned things around a tad since then, winning her first two rounds here in straight sets and then using all her experience to overcome Daria Saville in the quarterfinals in a tough three-setter.

Down a set, Stephens came back to win the next two 6-3, 6-2 to register that victory in two hours and 28 minutes. Broken thrice in the first set, Stephens did well to get broken just once in the next two sets despite facing eight break-points in the third set – all of which she saved.

Interestingly, this is Stephens’ first semifinal appearance at a WTA event since Parma Open in May last year. She will now be gunning for her first ever final since the 2018 WTA Finals where she had lost to Elina Svitolina.

Kalinskaya Makes Semifinal After a While

The last time Kalinskaya made it as far as the semifinal was in August 2019 when she fought her way through as a qualifier to enter the last four stage of Washington Open. It had taken Jessica Pegula three sets to get past the Russian.

This time around too, Kalinskaya is facing an American and will hope she can turn things around to enter her first ever career final on the WTA singles circuit (she has five doubles finals including one as recently as this month).

Kalinskaya had needed three sets apiece to get past Qinwen Zheng and Xinyu Wang in the first two rounds but against the higher-ranked and seeded Maria Camila Osorio Serrano, the Russian was in blazing form.

She registered a 6-4, 6-1 victory to march into the last four and with that kind of form, she would have the confidence to dream of something bigger.

Stephens v Kalinskaya Prediction and Tip

Stephens is an obvious favourite but at 6/4, Kalinskaya is a tempting option to make it past her opponent and into the final.

Tip: Kalinskaya to win: 6/4 (Click Here to Bet with bet365)
