Opelka Dumps Out Brouwer

Prior to this season, Reilly Opelka had not won a main draw match in Houston from his three previous attempts, but all that has changed in 2022 with the World No. 18 reaching the semifinals with back-to-back wins.

The third seed, who had a first round bye, dropped the first set of the second round against compatriot Mitchell Krueger, before coming back to beat the World No. 161, 3-6, 6-2, 6-4.

Opelka didn’t need so much of effort in the quarterfinal win over the Netherland’s Gijs Brouwer. He won 82% point on his first delivery and saved two of three break points, while converting half of the six he held in the contest.

With the win Opelka is now 15-6 for the season. He is a three-time champion on the tour, with his third coming this year in Dallas. He followed that up with a run to the final in Delray Beach, but finished runner-up to Cameron Norrie.  Opelka was also a semifinalist in Sydney earlier this season.
