Garin Finds Some Rhythm in Houston

Known to be a clay-courter, Garin hadn’t had the best of starts to the season on this surface. He had featured in three tournaments before coming into the Houston Open two weeks ago and lost in his openers at each one of them.

Defeats to Sebastian Baez, Federico Coria and Alejandro Tabilo in each of those matches followed by a first round loss on the hard courts of Miami meant he entered the Houston Open on the back of five successive losses.

Which is why Garin’s semifinal appearance in Houston would have been bit of a confidence uptick.

And while wins over Jack Sock and Jordan Thompson there looked to be par for the course, Garin’s three-set victory over 1/3 favourite Taylor Fritz could turn things around for the Chilean.

He went down fighting to John Isner in the semifinal, but will hope he can take a lot out of the showing in Houston when he takes to court against Rune.

Rune at Career-Best Ranking

By the time Rune takes to court, he would have jumped up seven places to 72nd in the world and that would be his career-best ranking.

The 18-year-old loves his time on clay and which is why he had no difficulties in getting past his qualification opponents in Monte-Carlo last week. With wins over Radu Albot and Maxime Cressy, Rune made it to the main draw at that Masters tournament before winning his opener there.

Rune shocked Aslan Karatsev in three sets in the second round, and even when he lost in the second, it was a fighting showing against a far superior Casper Ruud.

This came on the back of a title win at the San Remo Challenger just a week before.

Can he bring his A-game to this one against another player who loves his time on clay?

Garin v Rune Prediction and Tip

We are looking at Rune starting out as a favourite here because of his far superior form despite Garin’s Houston showing.
