Marin Cilic v Albert Ramos-Vinolas Head to Head

This is a long-standing rivalry with the two having played nine matches and Cilic leading 6-3.

On clay, it’s 1-1 with Cilic having won their first meeting in 2012 in Hamburg while Ramos-Vinolas defeated the Croat in the 2017 Monte-Carlo Masters.

Cilic has won their previous two matches, both of which were played last year.

Cilic 1-2 on Clay This Season

Not that Cilic is a very big fan of clay court tennis anyway but he would have liked to do a lot better than his record for this season. The Croat has featured in two tournaments on this surface so far and won just one match.

And even that win came against Jo-Wilfried Tsonga who has already announced he is in the last couple of months of his tennis career.

The two defeats for Cilic were to Taylor Fritz and Sebastian Baez, the first of which was where he had gone into the encounter as a favourite.

Before his clay court campaign though, Cilic had already begun to endure some poor results with his previous six matches in hard court competitions also yielding just two wins.

Can he turn things around against a player who loves this surface?

Ramos-Vinolas Coming off Solid Estoril Showing

At the time of writing, Ramos-Vinolas is about to step on to court for his Estoril Open semifinal, where he faces Sebastian Baez. In an interesting coincidence, Baez had earlier dumped Cilic in the first round of that same competition.

Ramos-Vinolas has already played in eight clay court competitions for the season before his opener here and won a title as well. This was at Cordoba early in February.

Following that victory, Ramos-Vinolas would believe he could have done a tad better, and opening defeats in Buenos Aires, Marrakesh and Barcelona would particularly rankle.

That said there have been other decent results to go with that too, and Ramos-Vinolas will enter this match with a lot of confidence. Will he have enough time to recover from his Estoril campaign though?

Cilic v Ramos-Vinolas Prediction and Tip

Surprisingly there’s nothing to choose from between these two players according to the bookmakers, but we reckon Ramos-Vinolas holds the edge.

Tip: Ramos-Vinolas to win: 5/6 (Click Here to Bet with bet365)
