Benoît Paire v Emil Ruusuvouri Head to Head

The pair have played each other twice before, both matches occurring last week. Ruusuvouri was leading their match in Atlanta when Paire retired injured, and, a few weeks later, he beat him again in Winston-Salem.

Paire in Terrible Form Ahead of his Home Gran Slam

In normal years Paire might be looking forward to his home Grand Slam in Paris, although one fourth round appearance is the best he has to show for his efforts at Roland Garros in his career.

However, this year there must be a sense of trepidation given the terrible form he has been in recently.

2022 started reasonably brightly with the mercurial Frenchman reaching the third round of the Australian Open.

Since then, though, he has not won a single match on the main tour, and he has lost in the first round of ten successive tournaments where he has entered the main draw. The only reason why he was able to snap that sequence in Rome is because he failed to qualify!

Ruusuvouri Looking for Boost Ahead of Paris

Ruusuvouri, by contrast to Paire, has been in reasonable form so far in 2022, making his first senior final in Pune in February, and coping well with the switch to clay.

He came through qualification to make the main draw in Monte Carlo for the first time, and then went on to reach the third round in Barcelona, and the quarter-finals in Munich.

In Rome he lost in the second round of qualifying to the Estoril winner Sebastian Baez, only to get a second bite of the cherry as a lucky loser. However, he then lost in the first round to Cristian Garin of Chile, the world number 45.

He will be looking for a good run in Geneva to set him up for Paris, where he has never previously been beyond the first round.

Paire v Ruusuvouri Prediction and Tip

It has been nearly four months since Paire last won a match in the main draw on the senior tour, and it is hard to envisage that run ending against a man who beat him twice last year.
