Rebecca Peterson v Nuria Parrizas-Diaz Head to Head

The pair have played each other twice before, within a week of each other on hard courts back in their junior days. Peterson won both matches but that, though, was almost nine years ago, and is no real guide to current form.

Peterson’s Form in 2022 Mixed

Peterson enjoyed a brief purple patch in her career in 2019 in China, winning two consecutive titles on hard courts. It has never quite been as good before or since for the Swedish number one, although she did at least win a Challenger event last October.

Results in 2022 have been mixed to say the least, and she has not been beyond the second round of any event that she has entered on the WTA tour.

She was last in action in a junior tournament on clay in Germany, reaching the quarter-final before losing to a lower ranked player.

Parrizas-Diaz’s Seeding a Sign of Progress

Parrizas-Diaz, is a classic example of a late developer, and the thought that she would be seeded at all, let alone as high as three, for a tournament such as this would have been hardly imaginable a year ago.

Yet, she reached the third round of the Australian Open, and then the semi-finals in Monterrey, although results have plateaued since then, and she has had to content herself with a number of second round appearances.

The Spaniard certainly rode her luck in Rome last week, failing to get through qualifying, only to make the main draw as a lucky loser. She seemed headed for a  first round defeat at the hands of compatriot Sara Sorribes-Tormo, only to go through when her opponent suffered an injury.

Her luck ran out when she lost to Bianca Andreescu, ironically playing her best tennis of the week.

Peterson v Parrizas-Diaz Prediction and Tip

Parrizas-Diaz has the chance to underline the progress she has made by justifying her seeding in Rabat, and will be keen to make sure Peterson does not stand in her way.
