Gervais in a Fairy Tale Comeback from Retirement
Julie Gervais had retired from Tennis in 2020 and decided to make a surprise return this year. She had played a pre-qualifying match in Reichstett, the winner to take part in the qualifying draw in Strasbourg. However she lost it.
Fortunately a place in the qualifying draw opened up and she received a wildcard. Quite stunningly, the French native won both her qualifiers in straight sets and was given odds of a heavy underdog in both her matches.
Currently ranked 727, Gervais will hope her fairy tale return continues. The story keeps getting better Gervais takes part in the tournament only for the first time.
She has a good consistent serve with very good strokes off both her wings. Her net game is slightly weak but with nothing to lose against Sasnovich, she will be going for her shots from game 1.

Sasnovich on a Quest for a Deep Run
Belarusian tennis player Aliaksandra Sasnovich also had to come through the qualifiers. She has played 8 qualifier matches in 4 tournaments this year and has won all of them.
Sasnovich beat Vlada Koval 6-1, 6-3 and Lena Papadakis 6-2, 6-2 in her qualifier matches. She is 5-3 on clay this year and has an overall record of 20-9.
She reached the finals of the Melbourne summer set tournament the week before the Australian Open as a qualifier. Since then, she hasn’t been able to make a deep run of such sort and will be hoping she gets the chance in Strasbourg.
Sasnovich is the heavy favourite against Gervais and will be confident to seal a win to set up a round of 16 match vs Diane Parry or Angelique Kerber.
Gervais v Sasnovich Prediction and Tip
Despite Gervais pulling off two remarkable wins, it does seem this time it will be difficult to replicate it against the world number 50. Sasnovich’s overall baseline game is quite superior than Gervais’ and should be able to win this in straight sets.
Tip: Sasnovich to win in straight sets: 1/2 (Click Here to Bet with bet365)
