Alex de Minaur v Ugo Humbert Head to Head

The pair have played each other three times before, and de Minaur leads their head to head series by two matches to one.

Humbert won in the final in Antwerp in 2020, but de Minaur has won both their matches this year. The first was in the ATP Cup in Australia when they were playing for their respective countries, and the second was in the second round of Barcelona, just a few weeks ago.

De Minaur in Good Form on Clay

De Minaur was given a first round bye in Lyon courtesy of his seeding.

However, although not somebody that comes to mind when it comes to discussing clay court players, the Australian has a good record on the surface this year, with his best performance coming in Barcelona. There he beat Cameron Norrie, the top seed this week, before losing to Carlos Alcaraz in three sets at the semi-finals stage.

He had earlier beaten Humbert in the second round.

Since then, he reached the second round in Madrid and last week, got to the third round in Rome before losing in straight sets to Alexander Xverev.

Humbert Eases Past Compatriot

Humbert is currently the second ranked French player after Gael Monfils, but has been struggling for form since the turn of the year, especially on clay, with one win in Barcelona all that he had to his name prior to this tournament,

So, with his home Grand Slam looming, he would have taken encouragement from his first round victory over compatriot Gregoire Barrère, the world number 209 on Monday.

It was actually Humbert who was the first to drop his serve, but he soon got the break back, and another break gave him the chance to serve out for the set which he took.

The second set started with the pair swapping breaks, but Barrère dropped his serve once more, and that was effectively that. Humbert was able to close out proceedings with no real difficulty.

De Minaur v Humbert Prediction and Tip

Given that these two met only a few weeks ago in Barcelona, there is a recent comparative form guide there. The Australian won that match, and will start favourite to do so again.
