Volynets the Favourite in Round One
American player Katie Volynets takes part in the tournament for the first time. She is currently the world number 135 and is ranked 23 places below her career best ranking.
Hard court is the preferred surface for Volynets, however she has compiled a 11-4 record on clay this season. She has mainly played ITF 60 events under that record.
Volynets won the Palm Harbor ITF title and reached the semifinal of Bonita Springs ITF event, both in the span of last two months.
She is technically very astute and is equally good off her forehand and backhand. She doesn’t make too many unforced errors but she doesn’t have a strong serve to dominate her 1st serve points.
