Auger-Aliassime Breezes Past Qualifier

After surviving a first round scare on Sunday, Felix Auger-Aliassime looked in little trouble in the second round on Wednesday as he dispatched Argentine qualifier Camilo Ugo Carabelli.

Auger-Aliassime, who had never won a match at Roland Garros before this season, saved all five break points that he faced in the match and converted half of the 10 that he held to oust the Argentinian qualifier 6-0, 6-3, 6-4 in two hours and 15 minutes.

The World No. 9 out-aced Ugo Carabelli 8-0 and struck 41 winners against the Argentine’s 6. The Canadian made 37 unforced errors though, which was 10 more than his opponent.

It was a far easier contest for the Auger-Aliasime compared to his first round match against Peru’s Juan Pablo Varillas, where he lost the first two sets before rebound to win in five.

With Wednesday’s win, the 21-year-old improved his season record to 25-12. He will be hoping to keep the momentum going in the third round.

Krajinovic Overcomes Gojo

World no. 55 Filip Krajinovic needed over three hours to see off Croatia’s Borna Gojo in the second round on Wednesday.

The Serbian, who had handed 17th seed Reilly Opelka a shock defeat in the first round, continued his march in the tournament with a 7-6 (7-5), 6-2, 5-7, 6-1 victory.

Krajinovic hit 13 fewer aces than Gojo’s 47, but he also made 29 lesser unforced errors than his opponent’s 68. When it comes to break points conversion, Krajinovic converted 6 of 15 and saved 6 of 9.

This is the sixth time that the Serbian is featuring in the main draw of the Paris major, but it is only the second time that he has reached this far. On Friday, he will be aiming to reach the Round of 16 at a major for the first time.

Krajinovic, who is 12-10 in 2022, had a brilliant start in the first round, when he didn’t face a single break point as he knocked out Opleka 7-6 (7-5), 6-2, 6-3. Can he pull off another upset in the third round?
