Alexander Zverev v Brandon Nakashima Head to Head

Zverev won their only meeting at the U.S. Open two years ago.

Outplayed in the first two sets, world no. 3 Alexander Zverev rebounded to clinch a five-set thriller against Sebastian Baez in the second round on Wednesday.

The third seed German didn’t hold a single break point in the first set, and converted the only one he had in the second. In Contrast, Baez broke the German twice in each of the first two sets to take a commanding lead.

Zverev raised his level by a couple of notches from the third set on. While he didn’t get broken in the next two sets, he converted two break points each in the third and fourth to force the decider.

Baez went up 2-4 in the final set, but Zverev responded with a break in the very next game. Baez held a match point on Zverev’s serve at 4-5 (30-40), but the Argentine missed out on the opportunity. Zverev broke again in the next game and then held on for a 2-6, 4-6, 6-1, 6-2, 7-5 victory.

Zverev, who had little trouble in dispatching Sebastian Ofner in the first round, is into the third round at Roland Garros for a sixth time in his seventh appearance.

Last year’s semifinalist is 26-9 overall this season and 14-4 on clay. He will be hoping for another deep run this year and that epic win in the second round would have only made him stronger.

Nakashima Eliminates Griekspoor

Like Zverev, Brandon Nakashima has also survived a fie-set test in this tournament. But that was in the first round, when the World no. 75 defeated Poland’s Kamil Majchrzak in a three-and-a-half hour contest.

On Wednesday, Nakashima needed just three sets to dump out the Netherlands’ Tallon Griekspoor and march into the third round on his main draw debut at the clay court major.

This is the first time that the American has gone past the second round at a major. The 20-year-old doesn’t have a lot of experience playing on clay courts at any level, but two solid wins would have done his confidence a world of good.

Against Griekspoor, Nakashima converted 5 of 9 break points and saved 6 of 8 to win the contest 7-6 (8-6), 6-4, 6-2 in two hours and 12 minutes.

Zverev v Nakashima Prediction and Tip

Zverev is the experienced player, he is far more accomplished on clay and is also the third seed. He will be expected to roll into the fourth round with a straight-forward win.
