Andrey Rublev v Jannik Sinner Head to Head

This will be the fourth meeting between both players. Sinner leads the head-to-head 2-1 having won both their meetings on clay at Monte Carlo this season and Barcelona last year.

Another Tussle For Rublev

World No. 7 Andrey Rublev has had a mixed season coming into Roland Garros.

While he has won three titles already, i.e. Dubai, Marseille, Belgrade, he has also had some early disappointing losses and not been able to mange the consistency he would have like during the clay swing.

It has not been the easiest of weeks for him here in Paris either as he was pushed to four sets in his first two rounds by Kwon Soon-woo and Federico Delbonis.

Playing clay court specialist Cristain Garin in the round of 32, it was always going to be tricky and so it was.

Garin and Rublev split the first two sets and with Rublev taking the third set 6-2, it was a tussle in fourth. Both players held serve well and with the set going into the tiebreak, it was anyone’s set.

The Russian did well to dig deep and save set points to avoid a fifth set before finally closing out 13-11 in the fifth.

Rublev will be looking to get some rest in time for what will be a busy second week but first the challenge of facing Italian Jannik Sinner in the round of 16.

Sinner Clinical In McDonald Encounter

Italian Jannik Sinner started the season well making the quarter-finals of the Aussie Open, Dubai and Miami but a mix of reasons ranging from injury to illness did see him miss tournaments and pull out of Indian Wells mid-tournament.

The Italian did well to make the quarter-finals at Monte Carlo to kickstart his clay season but was followed by a straight set loss to Felix Auger- Aliassime in Madrid.  A good run at his home Masters 1000 in Rome ended with a quarter-final los to Stefanos Tsitsipas however.

It has been a satisfactory week for Sinner this week at Roland Garros with a straight sets win against the American Bjorn Fratangelo in the opener followed by a tricky four setter against Spaniard Roberto Carballes Baena.

In the round of 32, Sinner looked more fluent and clinical against the American Mackenzie McDonald, starting strong and despite stiff resistance from McDonald in the second set, it was the superior Sinner game that prevailed in straight sets.

Rublev v Sinner Prediction and Tip

This is an evenly matched fourth round encounter with both players looking to make a deep run for the first time at a major.

Each of them has had some hiccups during the clay season but has done well to recover and now ready for the second week here.

It will be down to who is the better player on the day and who plays the bigger points better. Expect Sinner to prevail in a tight four-setter.
