Hugo Gaston v Soonwoo Kwon Head to Head

The pair have played each other twice before, and that was earlier this year, in successive weeks.

Kwon won in Montpellier, and then again in Rotterdam, both times in straight sets.

Inconsistent Gaston Looking to Turn Things Around

Gaston, who reached the quarter-finals of the Paris Masters last year, and was a NextGen ATP finalist, has been having a very inconsistent season, with barren spells punctuated by the occasional tournament where he has a good run.

That was the case in Miami, where he reached the third round beating John Isner in the process, and also, at the French Open where he thrilled the local crowd by coming from behind to defeat the Australian Alex de Minaur in a first round thriller.

His run was ended by the Norwegian teenager Holger Vitus Nodskov Rune in the third round and he comes into this match with no known form on grass.

The Frenchman has never qualified for Wimbledon.

Kwon Hoping to Find Some Grass Court Form

Kwon won his maiden ATP title on indoor hard courts at Nur-Sultan last September, but he has been struggling to replicate that form in 2022.

He will be glad to be away from clay, with the culmination of that part of the season, ending with a  first round defeat to Andrey Rublev at the French Open.

The South Korean’s first foray on to grass this year ended in a first round defeat at the Challenger event in Surbiton,. But he may take inspiration from the fact that he reached the quarter-finals in Eastbourne last year.

Gaston v Kwon Prediction and Tip

Although neither is known as a grass court player, Kwon won both their two previous matches earlier this year, and will be expected to again beat the Frenchman.

Tip: Kwon to win: 3/8 (Click Here to Bet with bet365)
