Kirsten Flipkens will be making just her third main draw appearance this season. The 36-year-old Belgian, who had peaked to World no. 13 in 2013, last played a singles match at the Miami Open, falling in the opening round to Viktorija Golubic.
The Belgian, who reached the semifinals in Wimbledon in 2013, is a two-time Rosmalen Open finalist. She finished runner-up to Simona Halep in 2013 and to Aleksandra Krunić in 2018.
‘s-Hertogenbosch has been one of the most successful tournaments for Flipkens, who also reached the semifinals in 2010 and 2012, and was a quarterfinalist in 2019.
Flipkens is 42-30 on grass, the only surface where she has a win record.
She has mostly featured in the qualifying rounds this year, failing to reach the main draws. However, she has produced decent results in doubles, which includes a quarterfinal finish at the Australian Open.
She has not won a main draw singles match since beating Laura Siegemund in Abu Dhabi in January 2021. Can she end the drought in Rosmalen?

Tikhonova Comes Through Qualifiers
Facing Flipkens will be Russia’s Anastasia Tikhonova.
Ranked no. 175 in the world, Tikhonova qualified for the main draw with straight sets wins over Nigina Abduraimova and Jessika Ponchet in the qualifying rounds.
This will be Tikhonova’s first main draw appearance of the season. She lost in the first qualifying rounds in st. Petersburg, Istanbul and the French Open.
At the ITF level, the 21-year-old right-hander won the ITF Pretoria title in April for her third ITF singles title. She has also reached four doubles finals at the ITF level this year, but is yet to add to the seven titles she has won in the previous years. She was also a girls doubles runner-up at the French Open in 2019.
