Ajla Tomljanovic v Xinyu Wang Head to Head
Tomljanovic and Wang have not played each other before this.

Mixed Year For Australia’s Tomljanovic
Ajla Tomljanovic has been far from her best in 2022, lagging behind in the winning count. Outside the Covid-hit 2020 season, Tomljanovic has a 43.5% winning rate in the first half of this season – her lowest since 2017.
It was only during the clay season that she managed to get her campaign back on track, scoring seven of her 10 wins on the dirt, and bringing her win-loss record to 10-13 for the year.
While quarterfinal runs in Istanbul and Rabat elevated her confidence at Roland Garros in which she stunned Anett Kontaveit right out of the gate, she was extremely profligate against Varvara Gracheva in her second-round match.
Tomljanovic wasted a gazillion of break points against the Russian and was punished for her own serving jitters, ultimately losing 4-6 7-6 5-7.
The World No. 45 will kick off her grass-court campaign in Nottingham in just her third visit to the event. She reached the quarterfinals in 2019, losing to Tatjana Maria in straight sets.

Wang Beaten By Sasnovich in Paris
Xinyu Wang clinched the fifth ITF title of her career in La Bisbal, just a week before Roland Garros. But the 20-year-old could not mimic her good form in Paris where she lost in the first round to Aliaksandra Sasnovich in straight sets.
The Chinese young star entered the world’s Top 100 at the turn of the year and has been rising sporadically in recent months. But her form at the WTA tour level reads just three wins from nine tournaments – a plight that needs to change in the second half of the season.
The World No. 76 got a taste of grass-court tennis in 2021 when she reached the quarterfinals of the prestigious ITF event in Nottingham before she was forced to retire due to injury.
But just a week later, Wang was fit again as she successfully qualified for her first Wimbledon. But her adventure was short-lived, as she lost in the first round to Sofia Kenin.
Tomljanovic v Wang Prediction and Tip
Tomljanovic’s wealth of experience should hold her in good stead, but do not be surprised if this ends up being far from cushy for the fifth seed.
