World No. 40 Alison Riske will be pleased to put the clay swing behind her. In the three tournaments she participated in, the American managed just two wins. Most recently, she played at the French Open where she fell to the eventual champion Iga Swiatek in straight sets (having been served a bagel too).
The 31-year-old has now got the grass season to look forward to. She was a finalist here in Nottingham in 2016, a champion in the Rosmalen Championships in 2019 and a quarterfinalist in Wimbledon the same season.
Add to this equation Alison’s comparatively better track record on hard courts this season – which entails reaching the final in Adelaide and round four in Miami, and the number six seed will fancy her prospects in the tournament.
In 2022, Riske has also beaten the likes of Garbine Muguruza, Jil Teichmann, and Alize Cornet. Granted that she hasn’t been entirely consistent, she is among the experienced elites in her current bracket.

Snigur Clears Qualifiers
Daria Snigur, also known as Dariia Snihur, is making her low-tier WTA Tour debut in Nottingham. She achieved this feat after beating Freya Christie and Danielle Lao in the qualifiers.
So far, the 20-year-old has featured only in the majors and ITF events, with some success in the latter and only qualifying round exits in the former.
That said, the Ukrainian has made commendable strides on the tour. Since winning the Wimbledon Junior in 2019, she has risen exponentially in the rankings to become the current World No. 130.
This year, Snigur also won an ITF event in Germany and recently, reached the semis in Calvi and Saint Gaudens. Her last stint was in Roland Garros where she lost to Ipek Oz in the prelims.

Snigur is untested and not a lot can be said of her game on the tour, especially given that she is making her debut here. Riske is the clear odds-on favourite and backing her is the preferred way to go.
