Stefanos Tsitsipas v Dominic Stricker Head to Head

They never played before.

Tsitsipas Looking to Improve on Grass

Stefanos Tsitsipas is probably the weakest player on the grass inside the top 10. The Greek simply never played that much tennis on the surface and he struggles with it considerably.

A major part of his struggle is his backhand which gets attacked with serves a lot on grass. He also doesn’t have a very good block serve which is fairly common on grass. All of that can be improved upon and he will certainly look for that in Stuttgart

A tricky opponent looms for Tsitsipas in round two but he should be motivated. Especially after bombing out of Roland Garros against Rune. He’s had a very decent season so far with many wins but his overall level looks quite weak compared to last year.

He only played one match on grass last year and it came at Wimbledon where he lost to Frances Tiafoe in round one. He opted for early preparations this year around and it’s a good move considering his need to improve. He has a good serve which is a major weapon on grass.

Dramatic Stricker Comeback for Round Two

Dominic Stricker has been on the radar for a while now with the Swiss player certainly having the talent needed for a solid career. Last year he had somewhat of a mini breakout in Stuttgart taking down Hubert Hurkacz in round one and reaching the quarterfinal overall.

He’s back this year and he’s playing good tennis once more. In the qualies he mainly cruised past his opponents and one of them was actually Aslan Karatsev. If that wasn’t impressive enough he took down Maxime Cressy in round one with a dramatic comeback.

It was a serving contest as both have a powerful serve but Stricker was able to come back in quite a fashion. He was down a set and Cressy served for the match. He broke his opponent forcing a tiebreak which he won. He won the final set in another tight tiebreak.

He will certainly be inspired against Tsitsipas and if the Greek fails to tame the serve this might be quite a bad day for Tsitsipas.

Tsitsipas v Stricker Prediction and Tip

So I expected this contest to be a very tight one. The grass in Stuttgart is very quick and there aren’t many break chances. Both of them have a powerful serve and that should be the battle in the match. Who serves better and more consistently will probably win this one.

I could see Sticker troubling Tsitsipas quite a bit in this one. He won’t have anything to lose and young players in those circumstances are very dangerous. I’m not sure I would back him to win this match as I really like Tsitsipas but certainly, some combination of an over and a close match should be considered.

I’ll trust Tsitsipas to get this done. Let’s see how he does on grass.

Tip: Tsitsipas to win in three sets: 3/1 (Click Here to Bet with bet365)
