Magda Linette v Tereza Martincova Head to Head
While they have never faced off at the highest level before this, two encounters on the ITF circuit in 2013 and 2015 had yielded in one win apiece for both of them.

It took Linette time to get going but in the end she began her grass court campaign with a straight-set win over Katarzyna Kawa.
The world number 67 won 7-6 (4), 6-2 against Kawa to advance to the second round after needing an hour in the first set to shake off her opponent’s hold.
Linette, who is much more proficient on clay than the other surfaces, was up an early break but dropped serve in the sixth game of the opening set. Later she had three set-points when Kawa served to stay in the set at 5-6 but it took her another couple in the tie-breaker to forge forward.
The second set was bit of a steamroll though with Linette breaking her opponent in the third game and then again in the seventh to establish her supremacy.
Her real test begins now against a player ranked a few notches higher than her.

Martincova Stretched by Dodin
Much like Linette, Martincova did manage a straight-set win over her first round opponent Oceane Dodin but it was one that could have gone either way.
Martincova was on court for an hour and 23 minutes only but was pushed to a 7-6 (1), 7-5 victory in an encounter which saw a total of only three break-points. It was Martincova who got all three and managed to take advantage of just one – it came as late as the 11th game of the second set.
Once Martincova had converted that, it was a small matter of serving it out for the match – which she did and won it off her first match-point.
She has proven even last year she loves playing on grass, having made it to the third rounds at all three tournaments she played in – Nottingham, Birmingham and Wimbledon 2021. Can she make it her fourth successive set of back to back victories here?

Linette starts off a favourite but Martincova’s record on grass gives some hope and we believe it could lead to a scrappy win for her.
