Daniil Medvedev v Gilles Simon Head to Head

They played three times before and Simon won all three. The most recent one came in 2020.

Medvedev Back on Grass

Daniil Medvedev is finally back on grass after a solid season on the surface last year. He lost in the 4th round of Wimbledon to Hubert Hurkacz but he could have easily won that match with some even saying he should have.

Medvedev likes playing on the grass by his own admission because the points are short and generally likes short points. It also serves his powerful serve rather well although his movement can be shaky at times. The Russian has a grass title won last year in Mallorca so he will look to add another one.

The motivation is clear, get points. He will be losing quite many after being unable to play Wimbledon so he needs to replenish that tally. He played in Rosmalen before with the quarterfinal his best result. 19-7 is the score this year and last year he went 7-2 on this surface.

After an early exit in Paris Medvedev will be looking for some wins heading into the North American hard court swing in where he was dominant last year.

Simon Keeps It In Two Sets

Gilles Simon was able to keep his match against James Duckworth in two sets after complicating things in the 2nd set. Doing that was quite crucial for him as he will only have a few hours of rest before his next match. Rain has decimated the schedule in Rosmalen in the past few days meaning Simon will now have to play two matches in a day.

The first one was only about 30 minutes but still, it’s not something an old veteran close to retirement wants to be doing. He had a break in hand yesterday against Duckworth when the match was suspended. He lost that break when they returned but was able to escape in the tiebreak.

Simon oddly likes playing against Medvedev having a 3-0 score against him with some impressive wins. The most recent one was over two years ago and since then the Russian got much better. This time around it will be much tougher for him.

But it’s grass and strange things have happened before.

Medvedev v Simon Prediction and Tip

Medvedev will be heavily favoured in this matchup for several reasons. He is younger and quicker and generally plays better tennis. He played better recently and he will have the added motivation of having never beaten Simon in the past. He would not want for Gilles to retire with a 3-0 score against him.

That would look bad on the resume so I fully expect him to take over against Simon who is counting his final days on the ATP tour. Take Daniil comfortably.

Tip: Medvedev to win in straight sets: 1/1 (Click Here to Bet with bet365)
