Matteo Berrettini v Lorenzo Sonego Head to Head

While these two have never faced off at the highest level before this, there have been two previous meetings on the Challenger circuit with Berrettini winning both of them.

Berrettini Returns from Injury Layoff with a Win

It wasn’t the most pleasing performance coming off Berrettini’s racquet but there was enough to suggest things could work out for the previous year’s Wimbledon runnerup.

Berrettini, who had been out of action for a few months because of fitness concerns, needed three sets to get Radu Albot in his second round win following an opening round bye.

He registered a 6-2, 4-6, 6-3 victory in a match that lasted nearly two hours, smashing 21 aces in the process. He faced four break-points, allowing his opponent to convert just one of them – which came in the seventh game of the second set – but quickly came back in the final set with a break in the fourth game.

From that point onward, Berrettini lost just two points on his serve to complete the formalities and seal his place in the last eight.

Can he continue on from here and feel himself more at home?

Sonego Stretched by Struff

Sonego was a heavy favourite coming into his second round match against the otherwise struggling Jan-Lennard Struff and while he did manage to live up to that billing, there was no shortage of those moments when it seemed like his opponent could actually upset the apple-cart.

The world number 32 was stretched to two tie-breakers in the encounter before finally winning 7-6 (2), 7-6 (4) to seal his quarterfinal berth.

This follows on from his previous two performances on grass where he has excelled – reaching the final at Eastbourne International and the fourth round at Wimbledon last year.

The match lasted an hour and 50 minutes, with neither player managing even one break of serve – in fact there was just one break-point faced by either in the entire match and Struff saved it easily.

With Sonego in the kind of form he has been on grass, this quarterfinal might turn out to be humdinger.

Berrettini v Sonego Prediction and Tip

Berrettini has the ranking and experience of having done well at this level on grass but might not be fully fit yet. Sonego has the form and confidence. All of this equates to a match to watch out for with a possibility of a third set in the offing.

Tip: Over 21.5 games in the match: 5/6 (Click Here to Bet with bet365)
