Belinda Bencic v Jule Niemeier Head to Head

They played once before and it happened in Berlin last year with Bencic winning 4-6 6-4 7-5.

Bencic Back in Berlin

Belinda Bencic shook off a terrible clay season last year with a final in Berlin losing out to Samsonova. It was a good event for her and one that started a brilliant run in the 2nd part of the season.

This year Bencic is 22-10 on the year with a very strong run on clay so things are quite different but it’s a positive development for the Swiss player who was once firmly in the top 10. Bencic is a very strong grass player posting a positive win/loss record every year since becoming a pro tennis player.

Her serve can be a very dangerous weapon on the surface when it works and last year it certainly worked really well. She should be confident in Berlin returning to a place where she dominated last year and the opponent is quite familiar as well.

They played here last year and Bencic was able to come back and win that match despite losing the opening set. She will be more sure of the win this time around but still, it’s a new surface and it will take some time to get adjusted. She counters Niemeier pretty well because she can move her around the court and that’s something she doesn’t like to do.

Breakout At Home for Niemeier?

Jule Niemeier is playing a superb season so far this year with 25 wins and only 11 losses. The German is through the top 100 and it’s only going to go up from here.

Events such as this prove a very good chance for her to earn some points but the draw was not very favourable for her getting Bencic early. They played here last year and Niemeier was able to take one set but was unable to get the win. Perhaps this year she can get it done.

It will require a very strong effort from here both serving and especially returning. The German likes to attack and she’s not very shy about it. She’s also in superb form having won a 125K WTA event in Croatia last week. She pretty much rolled to the trophy not dropping a single set.

If she can adjust quickly to the grass she will be a tough out for Bencic once more.

Bencic v Niemeier Prediction and Tip

Bencic is the better player but she has not played since Roland Garros while Niemeier is coming off a very strong week in Croatia where she smashed all her opponents in capturing a trophy. Both will have to adjust a bit but Bencic should be able to do it more smoothly as she played more on the surface.

The German should have some of the crowd on her side but she generally plays well at home so that should not be an issue either way. It’s on Bencic’s racquet because her best should be enough. She needs to serve well and everything will come easy. I’ll back her to do it.

Tip: Bencic to win in straight sets: 8/11 (Click Here to Bet with bet365)
