Humbert Struggling to Win Matches

Last year’s Halle Open champion Ugo Humbert has had a tough time so far in 2022.

The 23-year-old left-hander brings a 4-13 season record into the tournament. Although things don’t look too bright for the Frenchman, but he would look to draw inspiration from his last year’s run in the tournament, where he beat some top players in Alexander Zverev, Felix Auger-Aliassime and Andrey Rublev to lift his maiden grass-court trophy.

He had won two more titles on hard courts in 2020. Overall, Humbert has a decent 14-7 record on grass. He also made it to the fourth round at Wimbledon in 2019.

He didn’t start well on grass this year, falling in the opener in Stuttgart. Can the World No. 50 make a good start in Halle?

The Moldovan, ranked No. 116, had ousted Portugal’s Joao Sousa 1-6, 7-6, 6-2 in the first qualifying round on Saturday.

He had also beaten Sousa in the first round in Stuttgart last week after qualifying for the main draw, and then stretched eventual champion Matteo Berrettini to three sets, before being knocked out of the tournament.

Albot is 5-4 in the main draws this season. The 32-year-old has an overall record of 8-10 on grass. Can he take out the defending champion in the opener?
