Ruusuvuori Struggles in Queen’s Qualification

After falling in the second round of the Rosmalen competition last week, Ruusuvuori had to make it through the qualifiers to make the main draw here at Queen’s Club.

And it almost turned out to be an early exit from the competition for the Finnish player.

Ruusuvuori needed three sets, including two tie-breakers to overcome Feliciano Lopez in his second qualifying round, scraping through to a 6-3, 6-7 (3), 7-6 (8) victory.

This is also the first time that he is featuring in the tournament and a qualification for the main draw should boost his confidence. Especially on the back of a victory against the much more fancied Botic van de Zandschulp in the first round at Rosmalen last year.

Unfortunately for Ruusuvuori, his overall showing on grass isn’t much to write home about, making it a tough call to back him against a reasonably stiff opponent. The good news for him is his opponent is also a qualifier.

Halys Makes it to his Maiden Grass Main Draw

Halys has been around for a while, featuring in a few grass court tournaments including five editions of Wimbledon. All of those had ended in his dismissal from the tournament at the qualification stages.

This is the first time in his career, Halys will feature in the first round of a grass court competition. And he has made a smooth sailing to get there too.

It started off with a 6-2, 6-3 win over Alejandro Tabilo before facing Denis Kudla in the second. It was expected to be a slightly stiffer contest but once Halys had overcome Kudla in the first set tie-breaker, there was no looking back as he cruised to an easy second set win.

Can the Frenchman now pose a serious threat for Ruusuvuori?

Ruusuvuori v Halys Prediction and Tip

This won’t be a straightforward one for Ruussuvuori, as he looks to cruise through to the latter stages of a grass court competition. Expecting a three-setter here.
