Dayana Yastremska v Magda Linette Head to Head

Yastremska leads 2-0; she last beat Linette in the 2019 WTA Hua Hin semifinal to eventually win the championship.

Yastremska in a Rut

Dayana Yastremska arrived in Birmingham with a record of 17-13; she is now on a four-match losing streak and is in dire need of positive performance.

After a disappointing clay swing (best result in the WTA Bogota quarterfinal), the 22-year-old Ukrainian will look to acclimatize to the grass swing ahead of the Wimbledon.

So far, Yastremska is not off to the most efficient of the starts. Playing in the Libema Open last week, she fell to the eventual champion Ekaterina Alexandrova in the opener in three sets.

At the same time, her best Grand Slam result came at the Wimbledon in 2019 when she reached the fourth round. Perhaps, Dayana can translate that experience into a good run this week.

Earlier in the season, the current World No. 79 featured in the quarterfinal in WTA Dubai (upsetting Irina-Camelia Begu and Barbora Krejcikova en route) and later was a runner-up in the Lyon Open. She clearly has the skill set needed for a breakthrough run on grass.

Linette in a Similar Boat

Magda Linette also finds herself in a similar situation as Yastremska; she is 16-15 at the moment and hasn’t really had a clinical season.

Her last singles title came at the 2020 Thailand Open – since then, the Pole has reached just two semifinals on the tour. As for her run in 2022, her highlights entail a quarterfinal feat in Charleston, Strasbourg, and the Saint-Malo Challenger.

Linette last played in Nottingham where she lost in round two to Tereza Martincova – after surpassing Katarzyna Kawa in the first round with 7-6(4), 6-2.

That said, she is far more experienced than Yastremska and has had her moments over her long career. The Pole can up a solid fight.

Linette v Yastremska Prediction and Tip

Yastremska is the odds-on favourite here. She is resilient, determined, and equipped for a good run in Birmingham. She also holds a psychological advantage over her Linette.

Combined with her five WTA finals in her short career already (Linette is at four), it becomes all the more evident why Yastremska makes for a solid bet here.

Tip: Yastremska to Win: 8/11 (Click Here to Bet with bet365)
