Cerundulo Preparing for the Wimbledon Experience

Cerundulo has had an impressive rise up the rankings in the past year, driven primarily by his form on clay, although his semi-final appearance in Miami was as welcome to him as it was unexpected.

Grass though, is a relatively unknown surface to him, and he will be making his Wimbledon debut next week, although he can go there without the burden of expectation. It will be only the second Grand Slam in which he has appeared after the French Open.

Like Paul he entered Queen’s, and he did manage to overcome Pedro Martinez of Spain in straight sets in the first round.

He then lost in three sets to the British wildcard Ryan Peniston.

Queen’s Quarter-Finalist Paul

Paul won his maiden ATP title on the hard courts of Stockholm last November, and has broken into the top 40 this year.

He has never appeared in the main draw of Wimbledon before, but is guaranteed automatic entry into the main draw next week because of his ranking.

Despite though, having no known form on grass, he has just performed creditably at Queen’s Club, beating first Denis Shapovalov and then three time Grand Slam winner Stan Wawrinka.

His run was ended by Matteo Berrettini, but, given the Italian was the defending champion in West London, that was no disgrace.

Cerundulo v Paul Prediction and Tip

Neither man is known for their prowess on grass, and both will be making their Wimbledon main draw debuts next week. However, if the results from Queen’s Club are any guide, Paul may just feel the more comfortable on the surface.
