Holger Rune is one of the brightest young talents in men’s tennis. The Danish teenager made a strong claim of becoming the leading light of Next Gen stars after reaching his first quarterfinal at Grand Slam level at the French Open.
Rune produced a pair of giant-killing wins in Paris, defeating both Shapovalov and last year’s finalist Stefanos Tsitsipas to get to the last eight.
The 19-year-old went on to lose to fellow Scandinavian Casper Ruud in a chaotic quarterfinal. For Rune, regardless of the outcome, this was another encouraging step in his evolution. He left Paris with a career-high ranking of World No. 28, which effectively earns him a seeding spot at Wimbledon.
The former junior World No. 1 will embark on his second taste of grasscourt tennis at Eastbourne. Last week Rune was beaten on his first outing by Spain’s Pablo Carreno Busta at the Halle Open.

Peniston Produces Breakout Run at Queens
Ryan Peniston scored his first ATP tour match win on his main draw debut at Queens Club this past week when he knocked out Roland Garros finalist Casper Ruud in the first round.
And as if to prove that win was not a fluke, he backed it up with a three-set victory over Argentina’s World No. 46 Francisco Cerundolo. Peniston’s fairytale run ended in the quarterfinals but it was before he pushed Filip Krajinovic and lost narrowly in three sets.
It has been one heck of a week for Peniston, both in terms of accomplishments and rewards. On the same day he scored the biggest win of his career, he earned the prestigious wild card into the main draw of Wimbledon.
The 26-year-old Essex native, who had never played a Grand Slam main draw match in his career, will get to experience that feeling in a week’s time at SW19. But before the grasscourt slam, his remarkable journey of surviving cancer to become a pro athlete could have another glorious chapter at this week’s Eastbourne International
Rune v Peniston Prediction and Tip
Peniston has shown remarkable resilience in his life and in his career. And it is only fitting he gets to experience the adrenaline rush of winning matches at the highest level. Given just how good he looked at Queens, I wouldn’t put it past him to shock us again in Eastbourne.
