Nick Kyrgios v Roberto Bautista Agut Head to Head
Bautista Agut leads the H2H 2-1, winning their more recent match ups in 2020 and 2021. In the 2021 US Open, Bautista Agut won in straight sets, and won the last set 6-0.
Kyrgios Amidst Commanding Grass Season
Nick Kyrgios has jumped 30 places in his world rank since the beginning of the grass season. He is 7-2 on grass this season and has reached consecutive semifinals in Stuttgart and Halle.
The Australian is one of the best players on grass in the tour. Due to his heavy serving nature, he is almost unreturnable on grass. He has a 68% winning rate over a career span of 60 matches on grass.
In Stuttgart, Kyrgios reached the semifinals quite comfortably, but he lost to former Wimbledon champion, Andy Murray in that match.
In Halle he defeated Stefanos Tsitsipas in the second round and Pablo Carreno Busta in the quarterfinal. He lost to eventual champion, Hubert Hurkacz in the semifinal despite taking the first set.
Kyrgios played Laslo Djere in the first round in Mallorca and won 5-7, 7-6(1), 7-6(1). He lost concentration in the 12th game of the first set, but was in complete control of the match since then.
This is the first time Kyrgios is playing in Mallorca. He is currently 16-6 this year and has made deep runs in every tournament he has played in since the Australian Open.
Second Tournament for Agut Since Injury Layoff
Bautista Agut had to miss major clay tournaments including the Rome Masters and Roland Garros due to a wrist injury. He made his return in Halle last week.
The Spaniard reached the quarterfinal on his return back to the tour. He defeated Marton Fucsovics and Tallon Griekspoor in the initial two rounds.
He lost 4-6, 2-6 to a very supreme Daniil Medvedev in the quarterfinal. Agut won’t mind that loss as it was just his first tournament after the injury break.
Bautista Agut had reached the Wimbledon semifinal in 2019 and is extremely proficient on grass. He reached the quarterfinals of Mallorca in last year’s edition where he lost to Sam Querrey.
The veteran is now ranked world number 20, and needs a successful grass season in stay in the top 20 and actually make a push to return back into the top 10.
Kyrgios v Bautista Agut Prediction and Tip
Kyrgios is the in form player and has been dominating his opponents on serve. Agut will have to play exceptionally well to stand a chance, but this match up has come too soon after his injury layoff.
