de Minaur Strong in Eastbourne

Alex de Minaur loves playing in Eastbourne and we saw that last year. The Aussie player captured the trophy with a win against Lorenzo Sonego last year and he bested Sonego once more to reach the quarterfinal here again.

The match was very interesting with the opening set going to the tiebreak. In the 2nd set the Italian kind of folded allowing the Aussie to get to the quarters rather easily. It’s a welcome sight for de Minaur who has looked pretty strong on grass so far.

It’s a surface that has been nice for him and he can certainly play well for him. He’s also had some really good moments this year so it’s been a year of progressing for him. 24-14 is the record with 3-2 on grass. Last year it was 8-3 so there quite a lot more to be done.

A tricky affair presents itself in Paul although he beat him twice already this year. He should feel rather confident.

Paul Downing Sinner

Tommy Paul took down Jannik Sinner in a very tight 3-set match that saw the American outlast Sinner coming off of an injury. It was the first match of Sinner on grass and it’s by far the worst surface of the Italian. This win is not surprising yet it’s also quite impressive.

Paul has been showing a lot of promise this year which was not there in the past. Yes, he’s been fairly decent but his level has increased this year with some very strong wins against some of the best. Paul is 20-15 on the year with a chance to reach the top 30.

A strong outing here or at Wimbledon could do the tricky albeit he should be pretty drained after that one. de Minaur has always been a problem for him and he’s 0-2 against him all time. Both matches came this year and they were on hard and clay and neither was particularly close.

de Minaur v Paul Prediction and Tip

I will back de Minaur in this spot simply because I think he’s a tad bit better than Paul on grass. Both played well so far this week but somehow the Australian seems more confident. Paul dropped a set against Sinner who is not good on grass and was coming off an injury.

Speed demon is also 2-0 against him all-time with both matches coming this year. I think he’ll get a 3rd one against the tired Paul.

Tip: de Minaur to win in straight sets: 1/1 (Click Here to Bet with bet365)
