Etchevery Predominantly a Clay Court Player

This is a Wimbledon debut for Etchevery, who also made his competitive bow at the Australian and French Opens this year, losing in the first round on both occasions.

Like many South Americans he was brought up on clay, and it was his form on that surface that has helped propel him up the world rankings. He has appeared in three finals on the Challenger tour in 2022, winning an event in Chile in March.

Rather than head to grass after the French Open, he elected to stay on clay, reaching the final of another Challenger event in Italy.

When he did belatedly try and get some practice on the surface, he was beaten in the first round of qualifying in Eastbourne.

Humbert Won Halle Last Year

Humbert proved his proficiency on grass by winning the Halle tournament last year, beating Andrey Rublev in the final.

He would have been disappointed to have been knocked-out in the first round of Wimbledon a few weeks later, especially as on his previous visit, he had gone as far as the fourth round,.

That remains his best performance to date in a Grand Slam.

So far, the 23 year old has struggled to match the form of last year. He lost in the first round in Stuttgart, and the defence of his title in Halle was ended by Hubert Hurkasz of Poland.

And, last week, he suffered another first round defeat in Eastbourne, beaten by the Brazilian Thiago Monteiro, in three sets.

Etchevery v Humbert Prediction and Tip

Although Humbert is not in the best recent form, he is a proven winner on grass and is playing a man who is almost a complete novice on it. Anything than a comprehensive win for the Frenchman would be a surprise.

Tip: Humbert to win in straight sets: 8/11 (Click Here to Bet with bet365)
