Wozniacki v Larsson – Head to Head

This will be the first ever meeting between the Swede and the Dane, one ranked 75th in the world and the other being the third-ranked player.

Wozniacki’s Perfect Start to her Title Defence

The Dane started her bid for the second consecutive Australian Open title on a winning note against the Belgian Alison Van Uytvanck. It was a clinical performance by the World No. 3 wherein, she presented a lot of problems to her Belgian adversary.

At the end of the day, it took Wozniacki just an hour and 35 minutes to win the match 6-3, 6-4.

Prior to coming to Melbourne, she featured in the Auckland Open where she lost in the second round to Bianca Andreescu. Despite her shocking exit there, Wozniacki has been primed as one of the favourites to win the competition.

She spent her previous season as a permanent member of the top 3 and for a short while, she was even the World No. 1.

In addition to winning the Australian Open, she won the WTA Eastbourne and China Open. Prior to winning in Beijing, Wozniacki was seen struggling greatly with her form.

She ended her year at the WTA Finals, where she failed to move past the robin round.

Larsson’s Uneventful Start to the Year

Before arriving at Melbourne, the Swede played in a couple of events in the Australian Open Series. She featured in Auckland and Hobart and in both the cases, she lost her opening round fixture.

The 30-year-old managed to break that jinx at the Melbourne Park against the Belarusian Vera Lapko in the first round.

She won the first set 7-6(5) and was up 3-0 in the second set before Lapko retired from the match due to illness.

Larsson now faces a stiff task against a formidable opponent such as Wozniacki.

Considering her form last year, she didn’t register a single win against any of the top players, despite her repeated run-ins with the likes of Angelique Kerber, Venus Williams, and Dominika Cibulkova.

Nonetheless, the World No. 77 won the International level tournament in Nurnberg, where she defeated Alison Riske in the final.

Wozniacki v Larsson – Who Will Win?

It is difficult to imagine Larsson delivering an upset here. Wozniacki will start this match as the favourite to win and she should be able to win this one in straight sets.
