Mannarino’s Lacklustre Grass Season

Adrian Mannarino will begin his Wimbledon journey with a 3-3 record on grass which is fine. The problem is that all his wins happened in Den Bosch, an event where he generally played well over the years winning the trophy there.

The three matches he played outside of Den Bosch were easy defeats for the Frenchman. It’s a troublesome trend as he goes up against a player who could beat him at Wimbledon. It’s been a bad year overall for him as he’s only 14-18 and if he’s not careful he will migrate to the challenger Tour soon.

Wimbledon has been pretty good for him over the years. His best result came in 2018 when he played the 4th round losing to Roger Federer. He played Federer in round one last year as well but he retired in the 5th set after injuring his knee.

If he brings that level again he should have a good one. It’s unlikely but there you go.

Purcell Breezes Through Qualifiers

Max Purcell had to play the qualifiers to get into the main draw and he passed the test with flying colours dropping only one set in the 3rd match. The Australian player is a very tricky blend of different tennis skills but his doubles background make him hard to play on grass.

He’s 7-2 on the surface this year but most of those wins came at the Surbiton challenger where Denis Kudla ousted him in the quarterfinal. Purcell is good enough to beat some solid players on grass and he will certainly believe himself capable against Mannarino.

His main focus will be the doubles obviously but a couple of wins here could finally push him inside the top 100. It’s been a solid year overall with an 18-17 record but this will be his main draw debut.

It’s very important that he handles those emotions well against a player who won’t give away too much. If he does we’ll have a match.

Mannarino v Purcell Prediction and Tip

So Mannarino is obviously the better player overall. He’s got more talented and he proved more over the years but don’t be fooled by the odds. This is fairly close because Purcell is playing with a lot of confidence and playing well at the moment.

Mannarino’s best strength in this matchup is the unfamiliarity of Purcell with him He has a distinct style that can throw you off for the first time and I think that will be decisive. I do think we might see four or five sets but I also believe that Mannarino will get it done.

Tip: Mannarino to win in four sets: 3/1 (Click Here to Bet with bet365)
