Benjamin Bonzi v Zdenek Kolar Head to Head

They played once before and it was in 2020 in the French Open qualies. Bonzi won in three sets.

Bonzi Semifinalist in Mallorca

Benjamin Bonzi is certainly proving that his stay on the ATP tour is for real. The Frenchman broke into the top 100 thanks to some strong showings on the Challenger Tour but he’s now playing semi-finals on the ATP tour as well.

It was a very strong event for Bonzi in Mallorca as he reached his maiden semi-final losing to Stefanos Tsitsipas. It was a very good draw for him and he was lucky to face Denis Shapovalov who is falling apart ever since Rome but a 5-3 record on grass is quite notable.

The year overall has been very positive for him with a 27-14 score and a top 50 debut looming on the horizon. The French player has a great game for grass with a powerful serve and no shame in going to the net. He likes to keep the points short and attacks always which works as well.

Consistency is an issue but there are very few tennis players who are exceptionally consistent.

Kolar at Another Grand Slam Main Draw

Zdenek Kolar made his grand slam main drew debut at Roland Garros and he played rather well barely losing to Stefanos Tsitsipas.

It was a strong introductory thing for him and now he will play his 2nd grand slam main draw after beating some nice players in the qualifiers. He did lose his final match in the qualifiers but he was still able to get into the main draw to make his official Wimbledon debut.

Kolar is a solid player yet his peak is quite limited. I’m sure he can advance to the top 100 but I’m not certain how far he can go. There is some nice weapons there with a decent serve and some solid groundstrokes but overall he’s very beatable.

Especially on grass because his main prowess is on clay and those surfaces are very different.

Bonzi v Kolar Prediction and Tip

Benjamin Bonzi was able to do what Zdenek Kolar hopes to do, and that’s firmly ranked inside the top 100. The French player is the better player and obviously has a far better game than Kolar for grass. A better serve, better movement and stronger groundstrokes.

He lacks the fighting spirit of the Czech player but while that might prove useful on clay, the grass is far less forgiving. Take Bonzi to cruise here, the quality difference is too much.
