She was once ranked 36th in the world, but Podoroska is now outside the top 200 because of her injury concerns. Having taken a 10-month break from the sport, Podoroska finally returned to competitive sport last month and since then has been trying to accumulate her way back into the top 100.

The Argentine, taking on Romania’s Alexandra Ignalik in her opener claimed a 6-1, 6-1 drubbing of her opponent to move into the round of 16.
She was on court for a mere hour and 11 minutes, serving out four aces, breaking her opponent five times and facing not a single break-point in the process.
And while Podoroska’s challenge will only increase, so would have her confidence following her first round victory. Especially due to its manner.

Pigossi Shocks Gracheva
Having made it to the main draw of this event as a lucky loser, Pigossi shocked Varvara Gracheva in the first round in a one-sided encounter.
Pigossi, who was 7/5 underdog in her opener, overcame Gracheva 6-2, 6-4 to reach the second round in two hours.
The 113th-ranked player was off to a flier when she broke Gracheva twice in the first set to race off to a 4-0 lead before closing it out for the loss of two games. The same pattern looked to be repeating in the second set too as the score read 5-1 at one stage in favour of Pigossi.
However, a late fightback from Gracheva saw her save three match-points before Pigossi clinched the second round berth.
While things in the second round might not be as straightforward as they were here, expect Pigossi to put up a fight after this showing.
