Jasmine Paolini had a very good week back home in Italy last week reaching the semifinal in Palermo and that confidence translated to Poland as well as she started off well here as well.
Danka Kovinic is no pushover on clay but the Italian absolutely smashed her without any issues 6-1 6-1. The Italian dominated play from the baseline attacking well and deep. Paolini found her way in tennis last year with some spectacular performances in the 2nd part of the year.
She enjoys playing attacking tennis and that’s how she always plays. There is not much variety which is why, when things go wrong, she usually can’t find her way back. She smashed Bronzetti in the first set of the Palermo semifinal but failed to adapt going forward losing the match.
If her opponent can find a way to frustrate her she will have a hard time adapting to that. That’s the final piece missing in her fairly solid game.

Strong Start for Burel
Clara Burel has a superb season last year playing the lower ATP events and rising through the ranks. The French player has always been touted as a great talent but the transition to professional tennis has been somewhat slow.
She hit a proper wall this year while playing at the highest level of tennis, mostly being unable to fight against some of the better players on the tour. She can produce a good performance at times but the 9-17 record shows that she’s been mostly struggling.
That struggle made her drop out of the top 100 and she needs to play with consistency if she hopes to return there. A good start was made in round one when she beat Anna-Karolina Schmiedlova, quite convincingly so.
That sort of win is very much needed for her to build consistency but she needs to follow it up with another great performance. It’s unlikely but she will try.
Paolini v Burel Prediction and Tip
This is an interesting matchup between two players that will play against each other for a long time on the Tour. Paolini is the older and more complete player.
She is also playing much better at the moment even if they both had disappointing seasons so far. I’ll back the Italian to get this done.
