Alcaraz Resumes after Shock Hamburg Final Loss

Alcaraz was a whopping 7/50 to win the title at Hamburg when he took to court against Italy’s Lorenzo Musetti last Sunday. Three sets later, in an upset result, Musetti had clinched the title, winning 6-4, 6-7 (6), 6-4, stopping Alcaraz from lifting his fifth trophy for the year.

What makes that loss even more surprising is it was just third of the season on clay.

Alexander Zverev had earlier defeated Alcaraz in the quarterfinal of the French Open after another shock defeat at the hands of Sebastian Korda in the Monte-Carlo Masters opener.

Now, Alcaraz returns to the venue of his first ever career ATP title which he had won last year by crushing Richard Gasquet in the final after starting out as the seventh seed.

He had a bye in the first round and should have no problem gliding into the last eight stage as he takes on a lucky loser.

Lucky Loser Gombos Stuns Delbonis

While Federico Delbonis hasn’t had the best of seasons even on clay, he had still started off 1/2 favourite to get past Gombos in their opener.

Gombos, who had lost in his second round of qualifiers but make it through as a lucky loser, went on to stun Delbonis in three sets and two hours and 19 minutes.

He won 6-4, 5-7, 6-4 in a match that did not have too much to choose from between the two players – it was the six break-points that Gombos managed which helped him break his opponent thrice that got him through as compared to the two Delbonis had.

Gombos, who has never been ranked better than 80th in the world, now faces a player who is just 19 and already been tipped to win a Grand Slam in the near future. Can he even get close to testing Alcaraz?

Alcaraz v Gombos Prediction and Tip

This should be bit of a cakewalk for Alcaraz, helped in no small way by the three-day break that the Spaniard would have had.

Tip: Alcaraz to win in straight sets: 1/5 (Click Here to Bet with bet365)
