Swiatek Sizzles Past Frech

In what was her first match since featuring at Wimbledon, Swiatek showed no signs of rustiness as she ran past fellow Polish player and 82nd-ranked Magdalena Frech with ease.

Swiatek won her opener in her home competition in an hour and 12 minutes, sealing off her second round berth 6-1, 6-2, living up to the expectations.

Having had her 37-match winning streak for the season stopped by Alize Cornet, Swiatek broke her Frech four times in the match – twice in each of the sets – but at the same time faced no break-points. In fact she lost just 10 points on her serve in the entire encounter.

And now the world number one takes on a player who has just won her first main draw match for the year. Cannot get easier for Swiatek.

Lee Comes Through in a Battle of Qualifiers

Lee hadn’t won a main draw match in a WTA competition this season and when she got knocked out in the second qualifying round of this competition it looked like a repeat of what had been happening all year.

And yet, here we are, with Lee sharpening her claws as she takes on the world number one Swiatek after having defeated fellow qualifier Raluca Serban in her opener.

The 146th-ranked from Romania overcame the loss of the first set to clinch her second round place in two hours and 41 minutes.

Lee won 3-6, 6-2, 7-5, surviving six breaks of serve, breaking her opponent on seven occasions in turn. The final set was a lot more closely fought with Lee taking the early 2-0 lead, dropping serve in the fourth game before clinching the encounter with a break in the 11th game of the set.

Things could get exponentially tougher in round two.

Swiatek v Lee Prediction and Tip

It will take a miracle and a half for Lee to come close to testing Swiatek. In fact, as scorelines go, we could see a repeat of what happened in the first round in the Swiatek match.
