Lorenzo Musetti won his maiden ATP trophy pretty much out of nowhere last week in Hamburg. He was always known as a talented player and one that will have a great career but it’s not been that great of a year.
He had some solid outings and some good wins but his run in Hamburg did surprise many. The early wins were expected but the way he was able to outplay Carlos Alcaraz in the final simply cemented his status as one of the better young players on the Tour.
Following that triumph, Musetti made his way to Umag where he won the opening round match. It was a tricky affair and he needed 3 rounds but he was able to overcome it. There is no shortage of confidence in his play however there might be some fatigue.
Having a rest day between round one and round two will come as a blessing for Musetti who looks primed for another quarterfinal.

Cecchinato Making a Resurgent Return
Marco Cecchinato did not play good tennis for a very long time and it saw the Italian drop in the rankings significantly. His forte has always been clay tennis and outside of that surface, Cecchinato rarely did anything of note. Despite having a poor start to the year, Cecchinato did find some form lately.
Playing challenger events and some other events as well, the Italian was able to build up some confidence and it translated to the courts as well.
He plays aggressive tennis but can also settle into a match and play long rallies if he needs to. He had to play the qualifiers to get into Umag and he successfully won two matches. Then he added another win to get to round two and challenge Musetti.
It should be interesting as Cecchinato has the tools to win this match but he will need to play a bit better than he played so far in the Croatian coastal city.
Musetti v Cecchinato Prediction and Tip
They played a very close match last year at Roland Garros so we should expect a close one here as well. I do think, Musetti is a much better player and he should be fairly sure of his abilities at the moment.
Cecchinato will try to attack but Musetti can handle that with ease.
