Baez’s Stumble in Hambur

Sebastian Baez played a fabulous week of tennis in Bastad two weeks ago but the Argentine failed to his 2nd career trophy losing to compatriot Francisco Cerundolo. He travelled to Hamburg but stumbled in round one of the events against Filip Krajinovic.

It was a bad result for Baez because he had the match win almost guaranteed in the final set tiebreak but a late choke gave the win away to his opponent. It may have been a blessing in disguise because Baez looked quite tired by the end of that match.

He had plenty of time to rest up ahead of Umag and now he looks to get back to tennis. The opponent is the one that beat him last year in Kyiv in a challenger final.

Baez will be certainly motivated to avenge that defeat and with a 26-14 record on clay this year, it seems like he’s in a pretty good spot to do it.

Excellent Win for Agamenone

Franco Agamenone had an incredible year last year posting an 81-23 record overall and 60-18 on clay. It allowed him to advance fairly high on the ATP Rankings, much higher than he was ever ranked before.

It seemed like the Italian was a late bloomer that might finally break into the top 100 this year, especially if he continued playing as well as he did last year. Well, he didn’t. The record is quite lacklustre 23-21 and 16-14 on the red dirt.

The Italian is certainly capable of playing better tennis than that, but playing better players more regularly clearly impacted him. Nonetheless, Agamenone was able to beat two players in the qualifiers to get into the main draw and then take down Laslo Djere in three sets.

The Serbian is in poor form lately but the win is nonetheless impressive considering the prowess of Djere. He’ll like to continue that against a player he easily beat last year.

Baez v Agamenone Prediction and Tip

These two players played last year and the Italian won easily in two sets. I don’t think he’ll do that again because Baez improved so much from last year.

I think a well-rested Baez will take this one in two simple sets. Back the Argentine.

Tip: Baez to win in straight sets: 8/11 (Click Here to Bet with bet365)
