Marco Cecchinato v Franco Agamenone Head to Head

Cecchinato and Agamenone haven’t faced off in a competitive match before this.

Cecchinato Mauls Musetti in Surprise Result

He was once ranked 16th in the world but the struggles for Cecchinato have been so stark since then, he has fallen to outside the top 150 on the ATP Rankings charts. That he qualified for this event was probably down to some luck too with his second round opponent withdrawing from the competition

Coming up against the 537th-ranked Mili Polijicak in his opener, Cecchinato gave a further glimpse into his form crisis when he was stretched to over two hours and three sets to come through.

Against Lorenzo Musetti, nobody gave Cecchinato much hope with bookmakers pegging his win at 11/4.

And in that back-drop, not only did Cecchinato overcome Musetti, he also did that with the consummate ease one would have associated with him when he was a top-20 player.

He now faces an unheralded quarterfinal opponent but one who has sent a 3/20 favourite in his match packing.

Late Bloomer Agamenone Stuns Baez

Before coming into this season, Agamenone had never played in the main draw of any ATP competition, having featured in the Futures and Challenger circuit on an intermittent basis. This year, he made his main draw debut aged 29 at the French Open, having made it through as a lucky loser but lost his opener.

Little would he have known that not too long after that, Agamenone would not just be qualifying for his second career tournament but also winning matches.

Agamenone was 7/2 odds to overcome Laslo Djere in his opener, which he did in three hard-fought sets but that was followed by an even tougher encounter against Sebastian Baez who started off a 3/20 favourite to end Agamenone’s dream run.

The match looked to be going to script when Baez won the first set but Agamenone stormed back into contention with a 6-1, 7-5 win over the next two sets. A stunner alright but no fluke given his performance against Djere.

Can Agamenone now make it three in three?
