Karolina Pliskova v Amanda Anisimova Head to Head
There have four previous meetings between these two players and Pliskova has won every single time. All of these four matches came on hard court surfaces, with the last two coming in 2021, at the Montreal Open and US Open.

In keeping with her struggles for form this season, Pliskova was pushed to the brink in another match she should have won easily if one were to compare the two players on paper.
Instead, Pliskova overcame Katie Boulter 1-6, 7-6 (5), 6-3 in a match lasting two hours and 15 minutes, overcoming a 4-5 deficit in the second set tie-breaker to squeak past her opponent.
Even after losing the first set, Pliskova should have had it a lot easier. After all, she was 4-0 up in the second and later 5-1 as well.
Boulter, however, broke back twice, and then again as Pliskova had another chance to serve out the set at 6-5.
What makes it worse is Pliskova, who is known for her solid serves, dropped her service yet again in the third set – twice in fact – to make it eight breaks of serves against her. Against an opponent like Anisimova, this kind of serving might result in a rather one-sided defeat.

Anisimova Inching Towards Career-Best
Anisimova’s previous best on the WTA circuit was the 21st ranked she was at in October 2019 before she fell away because of a combination of lack of form and fitness woes.
She now enters this second round match on the back of a quarterfinal appearance at Wimbledon, which if it allowed ranking points, would have most certainly seen her break into the top 20 on the charts.
Anisimova returned to the circuit following that Wimbledon showing with a straight-set win over Ashlyn Krueger in the first round here to signal her intentions to do exactly that. The American won 6-2, 7-6 (5) to march into round two.
Having gotten knocked out in the first round of this tournament last season, a couple of victories here should be enough for Anisimova to improve upon her previous best.
